The Michigan Labor History Society had the honor to host author Kim Kelly for its annual meeting this past June. Speaking at the Operating Engineers Education Center in Detroit, Kim discussed insights from her book, Fight Like Hell: The Untold History of American Labor, highlighting history from underrecognized communities in the American labor movement. Her inclusive history included stories on contributions from women, LGBTQIA individuals, the disabled community, people of color, and much more.
Before the main event, the MLHS also hosted a free, labor history bus tour that took attendees to metro Detroit’s iconic locations where workers fought for and won their rights. The MLHS offers these labor bus tours to interested groups for free, and they can be requestions through our website!
The MLHS would like to thank Operating Engineers 324 for generously hosting our annual meeting, as well as UAW Region 1A and Wayne State University’s Labor@Wayne for sponsoring the event.
